Michael Fox Orr
Michael Fox Orr is The Firm’s managing shareholder and is part of The Firm’s complex and high exposure trial team with shareholder Carl Dawson and partner Giovanni Stewart. Michael also manages The Firm’s Business & Commercial, Professional Liability and Insurance Litigation Fortes.
He is a civil litigator who tries civil jury and bench trials. In Michael’s practice, he regularly participates in complex commercial and civil litigation with potential damages in excess of $1,000,000. He serves as general counsel for local companies and businesses with operations in multiple states. While many of Michael’s cases deal in contract, business, employment, construction and professional liability, he appears in several civil cases with intricate issues and fact patterns. Michael was recently recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer (top 5% in Florida) and has been featured in the Florida Super Lawyers Business Edition. Prior to that recognition, Michael was designated as a Rising Star by Florida Super Lawyers from 2011 to 2012.
Michael is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, and the Federal 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Michael graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a concentration in financial services. He then attended law school and received his Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida. While in law school, Michael served for two years as President of the Student Bar Association and received a full scholarship as a result of that service.
In the community, Michael aids various organizations through board service and volunteer work. Currently, Michael is serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Clara White Mission. Michael served as President of the Family Nurturing Center of Florida for two years and as President of his law school’s alumni association for two years. Michael serves the Special Olympics of Florida through miscellaneous roles of fundraising, management and volunteerism.
Along with his community service, Michael maintains a significant involvement in the legal profession. Michael was elected by his peers in 2013 to serve as President of the Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division. He will serve as President for the 2014-2015 Bar year and in that role will serve on the Executive Committee of the Florida Bar Board of Governors. Prior to that election, he was elected by his peers in the legal community to the Florida Bar Board of Governors, Young Lawyers Division for nearly eight years. Michael represents Clay, Duval, and Nassau County on the statewide board. Michael also served on the Florida Supreme Court’s Commission on Professionalism in 2013.
Michael also teaches various classes and makes presentations related to the practice of law. He taught contract drafting to a group of in-house attorneys and has presented on the topic of Ethics and Professionalism in Law Office Management to Northeast Florida paralegals and law office managers. He has also served as a substitute professor in a legal course for accountants. Michael moderated the Florida Bar’s Practicing with Professionalism for several years in Jacksonville, Florida, which is a required full-day program for first year attorneys in Florida. He serves as a moderator for other continuing legal education courses, and consistently assists in the planning of Bar-related projects.
With respect to the business community, Michael was nominated and selected in 2010 among hundreds of local executives as one of the top 40 business professionals under the age of 40 in Northeast Florida by the Jacksonville Business Journal. He was one of only three attorneys recognized in the top 40 list, which is compiled of “the brightest and most promising professionals” who have “achieved a high level of responsibility in both their careers and the community.”
